The Old Forge at Inverie, looking out on Scotland's West coast towards the Isle of Skye, is officially recognised as Britain's most remote pub. Getting there involves an 18-mile trek across mountain and bog from the nearest road – or catching the Westerns Isles, a second world war ferry, which goes from Mallaig four days a week. But the pub is said to serve great food from fish, landed on its own pier each day, to wild venison and Scottish-reared ostrich. The Observer 19/03/06 (Escape) page 3
