Regent Inns, the troubled bar and restaurant operator, has put six leasehold sites up for sale – including five Walkabout bars. They sites are the Walkabout bars in Shaftesbury Avenue, Putney, Newport and Grimsby, the Walkabout/Jongleurs in Edinburgh, and the Risa/Jongleurs in Cardiff. Asking prices for the leasehold interests ranges from nil premium to £250,000 and the free-of-tie leases, which date from 1998 onwards are all for periods of 25 years and above, with Putney running to 2040. The news of the Walkabout sell-off comes less than a week after M&C Report exclusively revealed that Regent Inns was to sell off six of its Old Orleans restaurants. The company, which has seen its shares collapse to 4p, valuing its share capital at less than £5m, is also believed to be in talks to sell the seven remaining freeholds in its Walkabout estate on a sale-and-leaseback basis, as it attempts to reduce its £80m debts. Anthony Jenkins, associate director at Christie & Co, said: “Regent Inns is currently carrying out a review of its property portfolio and is looking to dispose of a number of non-core sites. “These six high-turnover opportunities, which are part of this process, offer interested parties the chance to operate established properties in prime city and town centre locations.” Regent Inns currently operates circa 50 bars under its Walkabout brand and a total of over 90 outlets including sites under its Jongleurs, Bar Risa and Old Orleans brands, throughout the UK.
