Punch Taverns is to offer a new BII approved qualification for its business relationship managers (BRMs) to help improve support for licensees. Two modules — Capital Expenditure and Negotiation and Persuasion Skills — will be piloted with eight BRMs in the New Year. The participants will be assessed through exams and workplace evidence. Roger Whiteside, Punch Partnerships’ managing director, said: “A key part of our Pathway to Partnership change programme involved reviewing the role of the BRM and ensuring they have greater capacity to help with key areas such as financial planning, marketing and developing Partner’s retail offer and standards. “We see the new certificate as fundamental to our core training strategy and our continued focus to equip our business relationship managers to add value to our Partner’s businesses at every visit. Cathie Smith, director of BIIAB, added: “The qualification has been designed to fit around a programme of study that can be taken both in and out of the workplace. It covers key areas including, communications, financial control and management, negotiation and the industry code of practice. It’s designed to ensure people in the role can demonstrate competence and knowledge in these areas to a higher level than ever before
