Punch Tavern has appointed BHS retail director Darren Topp to take up the post of national operations director at its managed arm, writes Paul Charity. Topp’s start date is still to be finalised but Mike Tye, Punch Pub Company’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to have secured the appointment of someone with Darren’s calibre and are confident that he will be a very strong addition to the managed team.” “His broad experience will help us strengthen our retail disciplines, ensure the guest is always at the heart of our business and help us achieve our aim to become and remain the best managed pub business in the UK.” In his current role at BHS, Topp has full P&L responsibility for 200 stores as well as holding accountability for the Retail and Visual Merchandising teams and managing the BHS Food business for over 200 restaurants and coffee lounge operations selling a combination of branded and unbranded products. He has also managed the property portfolio. Prior to joining BHS, he worked for M&S for over 20 years having joined direct from school. He built a comprehensive knowledge of the business having held a range of roles including operations director of retail parks and divisional executive responsible for 200 stores.
