Punch Taverns has appointed Kenny Skelton, former client services director at TBG Digital, the global marketing and technology company, as its first head of digital, M&C Report has learnt. Skelton, who was also previously direct channel sales and marketing manager at Vodafone, will become head of digital for Spirit. Punch’s managed division, at the point of the company’s de-merger, which is expected next month. He will be responsible for driving all of the company’s digital platforms including new consumer websites for its key brands, such as Chef & Brewer and Fayre & Square. Skelton will also oversee the building of the group’s digital and online presence. Punch said that the appointment of Skelton acknowledged “the importance of digital media for building market share and driving guest loyalty”. M&C Report also understands that the managed division’s current marketing director Clive Briscoe, will become commercial director as part of the restructure of the business due to the de-merger. As announced earlier this year, the de-merger will see Ian Dyson, current chief executive of Punch Taverns become chief executive of Spirit, with Mike Tye taking the role of deputy chief executive, The company confirmed in March that it will separate the managed and leased businesses by the demerger of Spirit, the managed arm, from Punch before the end of the summer, leading to the creation of two independent public companies. Duncannon, the specialist recruitment firm, advised Punch on the appointment of Skelton.
