The City will be looking for optimistic noises from the pubs sector when Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries, Mitchells & Butlers and Enterprise Inns all report this week. Some analysts are concerned that weak consumer demand could be hitting home at Mitchells & Butlers. Enterprise is forecast to report a 51% rise in first-half pre-tax profits to £142m, partly as a result of the acquisition of rival Unique last year. Meanwhile, SABMiller is expected to report a full-year pre-tax profit of $1.99bn against $1.39bn last year.
