Licensees Diana and Graham Russell have been fined £1,000 after being found guilty of discrimination for stopping a gypsy coming their pub, the White Bear in Middlewich, Cheshire. Hawthorne Price, 19, claimed door staff refused his admission to the pub and told him gypsies were banned. The Cheshire, Halton and Warrington Racial Equality Council supported Price's case in Manchester County Court, which also ordered the Russells to pay £120 costs. The Russells denied discriminating against gypsies or travellers. They claimed they were managing the pub for the previous owner, and said they were enforcing a specific ban on Price.
