Shares in pub stocks jumped yesterday on the back of news from Enterprise Inns that the leased pub group was eligible to convert to a tax-efficient Real Estate Investment Trust. Marston's was the biggest mover in percentage terms, rising 34.5p to 234p. Punch Taverns, which responded to Enterprise's announcement by saying that it would continue to monitor the situation, rose 60.5p to 600p. Greene King was up 55.5p to 590.5p while Mitchells & Butlers was up 15.5p to 341p. Enterprise itself jumped almost 30% on the news. The group, led by Ted Tuppen, said it could convert to a Reit if it undertook an internal restructuring. It said it would review the benefits of such a move before deciding whether to recommend it to shareholders.
