An operator is being sought to take on a new pub development on a marina overlooking a canal in Derbyshire. Planning permission has been sought to redevelop the Mercia Marina, which overlooks the Trent and Mersey Canal in Willington. As part of the changes, a pub building named the Lighthouse would be built measuring 4,500 sq ft on the ground floor and 2,000 sq ft on the first floor, and featuring a four-story hexagonal tower. The site will include an outdoor seating area, a first floor terrace and a function room/conference facility in the top floor of the four-storey tower. The complex will also feature a retail units. The overall development is due to be build in 2013 at a cost of around £3m.
