A pub licensee has been caught selling cheap vodka in place of premium brands. Colin Kelmsey, of the Antelope in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was caught substituting Kirov vodka for Smirnoff Red. The Cavalier Pub Company, owner of the Antelope, apologised and removed Mr Kelmsey from his post. The company was fined £1,000 and the two directors were also fined £500 each by local magistrates. Bryan Lewin, lead officer for counterfeiting for the Trading Standards Institute said this was the latest in a long line of similar incidents and urged publicans to carry out regular checks. He said: "[The customers] have asked for a product by name because they trust the brand. Giving them something else is ripping them off."
