Police want bouncers to dump their traditional tuxedo uniform in favour of "less menacing" high-visibility fluorescent jackets, waistcoats and bibs. But door staff say the garish outfits would undermine their tough-guy image, make it harder to do the job and leave them open to ridicule. Cheryl Hall, of trade association Lads UK, said members faced derogatory comments with revellers shouting, "Bob the Builder". Bouncers also complain that the bibs could be pulled over their heads in a fight and used to throttle them. But police believe the scheme makes bouncers more approachable and identifiable.
