Sunday is becoming the "new Saturday" with clubs and bars reporting record business, Evensong at church or a quiet night in front of the telly are going out of fashion. Instead people are flocking to restaurants and pubs. Nightclubs report Sunday attendances up by more than 30% over the past year. Fiona Kerr, deputy manager of Time and Envy club in Middlesbrough, said customers had doubled. Sunday was no longer seen as a day of rest, she added. People just saw it as another day of the week. Cinemas too are attracting record audiences and more theatres are opening. But at the same time there has been a 6% increase in absenteeism from work on Monday mornings.
