Old English Taverns, the small pub operator, has acquired the Knife & Cleaver pub and restaurant in Bedfordshire for an undisclosed sum from an asking price of £1.2m. The group, headed by Steve Frangos and Mike Holton, purchased the freehold property in the village of Houghton Conquest from David and Pauline Loom, who have run it since 1989. The venue comprises a 70-cover restaurant with two AA Rosettes, a bar with a capacity for 40 people and nine letting rooms. Old English Taverns also owns the Pullman Inn in the Nottinghamshire Wolds and the Buckingham Arms in Maids Morton in Buckingham. The company said that it planned to expand its estate by a further five pubs over the coming 12 months. Christie & Co handled the sale.
