New York locals are opposing plans by rock stars David Bowie and Sting to open a burlesque club in Little Italy. The stars have leased a former restaurant in the area and plan to turn it into an upscale nightclub called Forty Deuce, featuring two 20-minute shows a night by burlesque dancers. Their partner Ivan Kane, who already operates Forty Deuce clubs in which the starts have invested in Hollywood and Las Vegas, says he is not operating a strip club or a lap-dancing establishment. Dancers will not be naked and will not offer private dances. The protestors believe the club will “degrade” the neighbourhood. The Times 15/9/07 page 52
