Relaxing the drinking laws could cause murder, rape, assault, domestic violence and drink-driving cases to soar, according to an internal Scotland Yard study. A report suggests having the riot squad on stand-by 24 hours a day to cope with the predicted increase in crime and violence. There are even fears they may not be enough police cells for all the drunks being held for assault and public order offences.
