Mobile phones are being used as a VIP entry pass to some of the country's top nightclubs. Doormen using hand-held scanners can check entry barcodes embedded in text messages. As an additional security measure, barcodes can be attached to photographs in case the mobile is stolen. The system is already being used on a trial basis at the One Central nightclub in Manchester. Owner Leroy Richardson said it removes the need for people to queue. Salford Reds, the rugby league club, has also adopted the technology and sends fans passes to games via text messages.
