Tim Martin, founder of JD Wetherspoon, has said that a management buyout is not going to occur at the pub chain, according to the Morning Advertiser. Martin said such a move was unlikely because of the "hundreds of millions" of pounds of debt that the company would have to carry on its balance sheet. Martin also commented that the decision by the company to ban smoking was irreversible, whatever its effects on sales. "Never say never, but in a way it is irreversible because smoking is going to be banned anyway. We've just got to make it work.
