Marston’s, the brewer and pub operator, has announced that it has made Andy Cooney, marketing and development director at its tenanted pub division, redundant in the face of rising costs. The group said it had also had to let its finance executive Gary Smith go. Ralph Findlay, the group’s chief executive, said that it had decided on the redundancies in a bid to reduce its overheads and with the aim of improving efficiency. Findlay said: “Like any other business we’re looking to do what we do as efficiently as we can. We’re looking at the issue of rising costs and trying to offset these by doing things more efficiently. “Marston’s needed to consolidate some aspects of the financial and commercial operations and such action is common in this environment.”
