Market Town Taverns has opened The Arcadia Ale and Wine bar, in Headingley, the first completely non-smoking pub in Leeds. The brand new venue is the first in a new initiative by the company to tempt non-smokers to Market Town pubs. The company said it was undeterred by the recent decision of Leeds University Union to reverse a one-month trial ban on smoking after finding that takings had dropped by almost a third after 13 days. "We are targeting a different market of the over 25s and have total confidence in our research which is continuing in our other bars and restaurants in North and West Yorkshire," said Ian Fozard, founder and managing director. "We are delighted to have launched Leeds’ first no-smoking tavern. People who wish to smoke will have to do so outside," he added.
