South Ayrshire Licensing Board in Scotland has declared that JD Wetherspoon was 'incompetent' and refused to listen to its case to win back its late licence after a happy hours promotion. The company's West Kirk pub in Ayr lost its late licence in October, when its hours were cut back to 11pm from 12.30am on Mondays to Saturdays and midnight on Sunday. The West Kirk lost its late hours after the licensing board heard it was running happy hours lasting the whole weekend, going against the board's policy of discouraging binge drinking. At the time, the pub was told it could not reapply for another year, however, it decided to make a move early after a club in Ayr had its hours restored. The company hoped to extend its hours to 12.15am on Mondays to Saturdays and 11.45pm on Sunday. However, the licensing board said that the nightclub move predated the adoption of its current code of practice.
