Greene King became the majority shareholder in Capital Pub Company this morning after buying a further batch of shares worth £4.244m. The Suffolk company bought 1,805,903 Capital shares at 235p, representing approximately 6.7% of the total. It takes Greene King’s stake in the London pub operator to 52.8%, following its acquisition of 2,914,819 Capital shares on Tuesday (19 July) and undertakings in respect of 440,000 ordinary shares from Capital shareholder Unicorn Asset Management, and from Capital directors. It follows news on Tuesday that Greene King’s £70m bid for the company has the support of Capital’s board. The bid implies an enterprise value of £93 million for Capital, which operates 34 pubs in the London area.
