Fuller, Smith and Turner, the brewer, hotel and pub operator, has sold its freehold and leasehold interests in the Master Brewer Hotel site in Hillingdon, West London, to Tesco for a total cash consideration of £18.5m. Tesco exercised its option to acquire the 105-room hotel, which has been trading since 1969, and had a net book value of £4.86m at 30 September 2006. The hotel reported losses of £30,000 for the six months to 30 September this year. An exceptional pre-tax profit of approximately £13.2m will be generated from the sale. Fuller’s said it will use the funds from the disposal, which will be earnings enhancing, to acquire additional sites for its current estate of 363 pubs and hotels in the medium term, and to reduce debt in the short term. The company said the sale would allow it to retain its focus on its more traditional pubs and hotels business, which includes six hotels and 17 pubs with bedrooms.
