Administrators have been appointed to 207 pubs, mostly in Scotland, that were formerly part of Robert Tchenguiz’s pub property empire. Reports suggest that administrators at Deloitte have been called into a group called R&L Properties, which was once managed by Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company, before LT Management Services were appointed to manage the business in the autumn of 2010. Neville Kahn, a partner at Deloitte, said the businesses would continue to be overseen by LT Pub Management, led by Billy Buchanan, while buyers for the businesses were sought. Licensed Solutions, a temporary management firm that specialises in these situations, will also work with LT Pub Management. Reports suggest that the lead lender to the business is Barclays. The level of gearing coupled with the caustic trading environment meant the company had struggled to service its debt, prompting the bank to act. Tchenguiz formed the business largely through acquisitions from Enterprise Inns and Scottish & Newcastle. Property agent Christie & Co has been lined up to handle the sale and marketing side of the process.
