The old Scottish and Newcastle Brewery site at Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, is set to become a school, after Lloyds Banking Group agreed to sell the site to Edinburgh City Council. The council has secured preferred bidder status, which means the site will be bought subject to the conclusion of missives. It is thought that its plans to build the new Boroughmuir High School on the old brewery site, which had once been earmarked as the location of a £100m headquarters for HBOS. The deal will need to be approved at a full council meeting on 24 November.
