Diageo announced it was investing Eu0.5m (£334,000) in a campaign designed to combat the effects of the ban on smoking in Irish pubs. According to a report in the Morning Advertiser, the company has launched a "Here's to the pub" campaign, designed to portray the bar as a great place to socialise. Radio adverts with the slogan "There's no better place than your local pub" will be backed with 10,000 free pint vouchers for Guinness drinkers. Pat Barry, Guinness spokesman, said: "Obviously there is a concern about the short-term impact of the ban. But the hope is that in the longer term things will bounce back." Diageo stands to make heavy losses if trade declines in pubs as a result of the ban, because 60% of products sold in Irish pubs belong to the company.
