Columbo Group, the north-London based pub company run by Stephen Ball, will open its fourth site and its first food-led pub in Kensal Green on 17 August. The new site, which was formerly the Paradise by Way Of Kensal Green, will comprise four separate areas, including an 80-cover dining room at the rear, two function rooms upstairs, as well as an outdoor area and a roof terrace. Ball told M&C Report: “The restaurant, which will open on 17 September, will serve modern European food and will be somewhere in between fine and casual dining. “We are looking for more sites and plan to open one more next year, but are not looking to expand at the same rate as we have been doing.” The company, which opened its first pub, the Old Queens Head in Islington, in January 2006, also runs the Queen Boadicea in Clerkenwell and the Westbury in Kilburn. Ball said that while the smoking ban does not appear to have had a detrimental effect on sales, it has affected things operationally, as two sites that do not have outside areas need to have staff monitoring people going outside for a smoke.
