Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) is to open its first shopping and leisure centre location under its Browns brand next year in Bluewater, Kent. The company took a site at the centre as part of its acquisition of the Ha Ha Bar & Grill chain for £19.5m last September. The group has already or is set to convert six former Ha Ha sites into Browns in total That site is now closed and is due to be relocated as part of the redevelopment of the scheme’s food offer. M&B currently operates 21 sites under the Browns bar & brasserie format, including seven in London. The company will open its next site under the brand in Spiceal Street, Birmingham this November. Openings in Newcastle, Nottingham, Reading, Richmond and York are also lined up for next year. It is thought that M&B would eventually like to grow the Browns estate to 50 sites. Last year, the company said it had rebuffed preliminary approaches from private equity firms keen to buy the brand.
