SA Brain, the Cardiff-based brewer and pub operator, is to launch a new bar & grill concept as it looks to ramp up its food offer. The company, which earlier this year acquired the 15-strong high street coffee chain Coffee#1 for an undisclosed sum, is to convert its Model Inn pub in Cardiff city centre is to re-open before the end of the year under the name Greenwood and Brown. The group, which is led by Scott Waddington, said the move was as a “natural progression” for the group, with food currently representing 35% of total sales across its managed estate. It is unclear as yet whether the site, which is named after the unit’s original incarnation as a wine merchant, will be the first of a number opened under the format by the group. Philip Lay, retail director at Brains, said: “We already have a great pub on Quay Street in the City Arms, which serves 35 different types of beers and ciders. Greenwood and Brown will offer something completely different, and we think it will be a great addition to the area.” Earlier this year, the company, which currently operates c.240 pubs, secured a new funding package with Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets and HSBC Corporate Banking, which includes a £70m revolving credit facility.
