The Big Lamp Brewery, in Newburn, Newcastle, is to name one of its beers after a local couple who recently celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary. The couple put the success of their marriage down to regular trips to Balmbra's music hall in Newcastle's Bigg Market. Evelyn Shevill said: "I started going to Balmbra's when I was about 16 years old and there would be quite a large group of us who would go down. "We would try not to spend too much money but you never had to pay to get in, and William would drink whisky and I would usually have orange juice or sherry." The beer, Shevill's 70th Anniversary Ale, will be launched at a party for William and Evelyn at the brewery's pub, The Keelman, in Newburn.
