Barracuda Group has reported that sales at its student-oriented Varsity brand were up 20% on the year for the Freshers’ Week period. Mark McQuater, chief executive of Barracuda Group, said: "This shows the student market is stronger than ever in this country, and that the high-quality Varsity format is in line with this important niche, pushing our market share even higher." The group also announced that it had sold 27% more of its loyalty scheme V-Cards than in the same period last year, taking it to over 1 million sold since its introduction three years ago. The card, which costs £1, gives the holder 25% off drinks at any one of the 30 Varsity bars across the UK.
