Bar Sport, the Midlands-based sports bar company, is seeking new investment to rollout out its concept nationally. The group, which was started nine years ago, currently operates three sites in towns across the Midlands and is set to open its fourth bar in October in Loughborough. Scott Murray, managing director and founder of the group, said the company hopes to gain new backing through either a private equity firm or venture capital to open 10 further sites over the next two years. Murray said: “We are looking to acquire a mixture of freehold and leasehold sites in secondary, predominantly working class towns across the Midlands. “We will invest between £500,000 and £1m opening in Loughborough, which will probably become our flagship site, and we hope to open our fifth site next spring in Cheltenham.” Murray said the company, which currently operates bars in Cannock, Walsall and Rugby, was also looking at possible sites in Shrewsbury, Worcester and Northampton. He also said that the group would consider franchising the brand to ex-sports stars in order to expand the concept across the UK. He said: “It’s an option, we have also had interest in franchising the brand abroad from overseas investors from as far afield as China. However, at the moment we want to concentrate on our core region of the Midlands.” The bars currently each have an average turnover of £1m a year, although Murray expects the Loughborough site to generate £1.5m to £2m a year going forward.
