Antic, the south London-based pub operator, has secured its 19th trading site after taking the lease of a Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) Goose pub in Streatham. M&B has assigned the 20-year lease to Antic for the site, which has a private freehold owner. It’s currently trading but due to re-open under the new name Pratts and Payne around September. Managing director Max Alderman said around £150,000 is expected to be spent on refurbishing the site. “It will be a good pub with good, homemade food,” he said. Antic aims to operate 24 sites by the end of the year. Last month it acquired the Walkabout Bar in Clapham, from Intertain, the bar group formed following the collapse of Regents Inns. Pratts & Payne is named after the former department store Pratts on the High Road, and Cynthia Payne, who allegedly ran a brothel in Streatham in the 1970s.
