Anglia Pub Company, the group led by ex-Punch business development manager Garry Clark, has taken on its sixth site in East Anglia, the Old Cannon Brewery in Bury St Edmonds. The company has acquired the lease of the centrally located Old Cannon, which dates back to 1845 and comprises a brewery, bar, brasserie and bed and breakfast accommodation. The Old Cannon’s beers are made on the premises in the unique, state-of-the-art stainless steel brewing vessels, which are showcased in the bar. The Brewery Rooms, which are situated in the converted old brew house just across the brewery yard, consist of six double rooms and one twin room, all with large en suite shower rooms. The Ipswich-based group, which was launched in 2007, is made up of a mixture of managed and joint venture pub restaurants spread across Suffolk and Essex. Bill Colquhoun, director of Christie + Co, which handled the sale on behalf of the vendor, said: “The unique qualities of the Old Cannon Brewery business and rare availability of free-of-tie leases in Bury St Edmunds attracted multiple offers from prospective purchasers, proving that quality businesses will always attract serious interest.”
