Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises (S&NPE), the leased pub group, is understood to have acquired five freehold pubs from Adnams, the Suffolk-based brewer and pub operator, in a deal valued between £1.5m and £2m. The pubs, all located in Adnams’ East-Anglian heartland, were part of a package of nine put up for sale by the Suffolk brewer earlier this year. S&NPE is thought to have purchased the Two Brewers in Diss, The Plasterers in Norwich, the Prince Consort in Great Yarmouth, and the County Arms and the Grand Old Duke, both in Ipswich. Christie & Co, the property agent, brokered the deal and is thought to be seeking buyers for four remaining Adnams sites. Earlier this year, S&NPE acquired 30 pubs from Tadcaster Pub Company and the four-strong Progressive Pub Company. Adnams held abortive talks with Shannon Inns before agreeing to sell five of the nine pubs to S&NPE.
