Jonathan Adnams, chief executive of Suffolk brewer and pub operator Adnams, has claimed that the internet is acting as a major deterant to keep people away from pubs. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he said: “I think we have to recognise that the worlkd is changing, people are doing other things with their leisure time. They are not going to go down to the pub quite so much as they used to because they are at home on the internet. “It’s a structural change in what people are doing. When I was a boy, what did you do in places like Southwold [the brewer’s home town] in the evenings? [You] went down the pub. There was nothing else to do. “We didn’t have an internet at home where we could sit and network with friends.”
