Admiral Taverns, the tenanted pub operator, is in active discussions with a “handful” of tenants about signing up the agreement that lets them buy the freehold of the pub from three years into a lease. Managing director Kevin Georgel told M&C Report that Admiral was also in talks with the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) about the scheme, which he believed could suit SIBA members who want to run a pub or expand their pub business. The free-to-buy option was revealed in M&C Report last November. The company signed up its first tenant to the deal earlier this year. “It’s obviously still small scale,” said Georgel. “I’ve got a handful that are not completed but I’m actively in discussions about. “It does require a specific type of senario to work for all parties but when those objectives come together it’s very beneficial.” It comes as Admiral continues to churn its estate. This week the company placed a further eight pubs on the market with Fleurets.
