More than 2,000 pubs and clubs have installed technology that lets them show 3D football via cinema-style screens. Punch Taverns’ managed pub brands Original Pub Company and John Barras are among the sites that are using the technology, known as the Cinema 3D Pub Package from LG Electronics. The system was trialled at Punch’s Raynes Park Tavern in London, where LG Electronics said it lead to an overall 10-15% increase in sales and 25% sales rise on big sporting occasions. LG Electronics said: “The impressive wide angle viewing capabilities, offered only through Cinema 3D, ensures football fans are able to watch the game in 3D from anywhere in the pub without losing picture quality. “The unparalleled experience will encourage more people to watch upcoming sporting events in the lively atmosphere of the pub rather than at home.” It represents one of the latest technological development for 3D TV in pubs. Glasses-free 3D technology is currently being trialled at the Walkabout bar in London’s Covent Garden.
