Patisserie Valerie, the Risk Capital-backed upmarket café chain, will open its 50th site in the UK this weekend in Sheffield. The chain, which is part of Patisserie Holdings, will open on the site of the old Early Learning Centre shop at 11 Barkers Pool in the city. The opening will be the 13th by the chain this year. The group, which has grown by 50% over the last 12 months, recently opened sites in Birmingham Pavilions, Henley-on-Thames, Hove and Richmond. Patisserie Valerie, which is led by chief executive Paul May, has previously talked about taking the chain to over a 100 sites in the UK, plus 15 in the Middle East, where it currently operates two franchise stores in Bahrain and Dubai respectively. Patisserie Holdings operates an estate of c.80 cafes in total, including four Baker & Spice-branded units in London and 28 Druckers outlets.
