Gastropub operator Wykeham Inns has been placed in administration. Sites include The Dartmoor Union Inn in Holbeton, Webbs Hotel in Liskeard, The White Hart in Modbury and The Ring o'Bells, at North Bovey. The company, set up by entrepreneur John Steven, has been placed in administration after a 'a hugely difficult trading period'. Steven said: “There will be no closures or job losses. It is part of a process that I have decided to go through. It is a technical decision – it is nothing bad.” He said he is planning to concentrate on other operations with a £1million plus turnover, such as the Glassblowing House at Sutton Harbour and St Elizabeth's House, in Plympton. In his Wykeham Land division, Steven has sold The Awliscombe Inn in Honiton, and says he is 'close' to selling The Anchor Inn in Ugborough. Steven started the Wykeham Inns business with the acquisition of the rundown Dartmoor Union Inn, in Holbeton, in 2004.
