Bitter restaurant bosses have accused Channel 4 of setting up several key scenes in Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. Television audiences have been treated to volatile four-letter outbursts from the volatile chef and abusive behaviour towards staff. But restaurateurs, whose businesses featured in the series, claimed some of Ramsay’s most explosive outbursts on the show were an elaborate stitch-up. Channel 4 and Optomen refuted allegations in The Mail on Sunday. The Observer reports on what happens after Ramsay says goodbye to the restaurateurs he is hired to help. Ramsay will be seen in this week’s episode attacking Francesco And Enrica Mattioli, the owners of the Walnut Tree restaurant, in South Wales, for charging £75 for a plate of seafood. He says the price would be outrageous in London, let alone “Abergafuckingvenny”. One restaurateur, who is closing down, is considering legal action against Channel 4. Sue Ray claims the programme helped destroy her business, Bonaparte’s, in Silsden, west Yorkshire. She said the only people coming in are friends, or passers-by asking to see it if is bad as the programme made out. The Mail on Sunday 9/05/04 page 36-37 The Observer 9/05/04 page 3
