PizzaExpress launches its new summer menu today, which features its first ever gluten-free range, the biggest refresh of its kids menu since launching in 2006, an extension to its best-selling skinny range of pizzas, called Leggera, and more light choices.
The c420-strong chain said that its gluten-free menu aims to welcome those who struggle to eat out because they have coeliac disease or simply want to avoid gluten, with a “first-rate, gluten-free pizza base, starters, desserts, options for children and a refreshing, gluten-free beer”. The range will carry Coeliac UK’s NGCI accreditation.
Coeliac UK’s chief executive, Sarah Sleet, said, “We know that eating out safely is a top concern for people with coeliac disease. We’re delighted that PizzaExpress is recognising the importance of catering for this market. We’ve been very impressed that, in addition to overhauling their operations, they have also committed to using gluten-free flour in all restaurants.”
Since launching seven years ago, PizzaExpress’ Piccolo Menu has undergone its biggest refresh and aims to “ignite kids’ curiosity about food through ‘Create Your Own’ and its attention grabbing, magazine-style layout, featuring colourful photography of healthy option”s. It folds out into an activity sheet, bursting with puzzles and games relating to nutritious ingredients.
