Yesteryear Pub Company, the managed operator founded by Tony Callaghan, has gone into administrative receivership, writes Paul Charity. The wage bill of the company is to be met by Wigan Pubs, a company also headed by Callaghan. The administrative receivership will be run by Begbies Traynor. Earlier this month Yesteryear placed ten sites on the market through Christie & Co, the letting agents. It was widely seen as an attempt by the company to step away from its worst-performing sites. Wigan Pubs, which has signed up to a management contract to run Yesteryear’s 16 remaining pubs, is involved in talks to acquire what amount to the company’s profit-making venues. At the time of the placement of ten sites on the market Callaghan said: “We plan to run a smaller estate as a platform on which to grow the business in a slightly different direction. Ten of our bars simply not do meet the criteria we have settled upon.”
