SSP, the travel concession caterer, has opened its third UK YamYamToGo outlet at London's Stansted airport. The menu includes Chinese, Indonesian and Thai dishes such as chicken chow mein, special fried rice, Thai chicken curry, beef rendang and pad Thai, all served at set prices with a drink. Presented in food cartons with rice or noodles, the dishes are prepared without the use of deep-fat frying and are being marketed as both healthy and quick. SSP UK chief executive Tony Keating said: “The beauty of this concept is that it marries all the ingredients that today’s customer looks for in a time pressured environment such as an airport; freshness, quality and efficiency.” SSP operates YamYamToGo under a franchise agreement and also has sites at Westfield Shopping Centre (UK flagship) and Luton airport. The concept was created in the Netherlands by Mr Cheung in 2002 with the first YamYamToGo store launched in 2003 at The Hague Central Station. Dutch retail operator Servex is a franchisee also, and there are currently eight outlets across the UK, Netherlands and Denmark with plans for up to eight more this year.
