Football fans will drink an extra 80m pints of beer and lager if England reach the World Cup final. Thousands of pubs were packed for Saturday's opening match against Paraguay with an estimated 1.5m pints downed. Another 3m crates of booze were consumed at home with Asda reporting beer sales up by 150%. Financial services company Deloitte warned that some retailers could run out of beer because of problems predicting the demand. Britons are also expected to eat enough pizza to cover 320 football pitches. The Sunday Times 11/06/06 page 2 The Mail on Sunday 11/06/06 page 2
