More than one in three workers regularly take their lunch break before or after the traditional midday or early afternoon period, according to a survey of 2,000 people by sandwich chain Subway. About three million staff regularly take their break before 11am due to time pressures at work, the survey says. Midlands-based workers are most likely to take an early lunch. Another 10 million don’t go to lunch until after 3pm, with those in London most likely to hold off until that time. In total, 35% of workers regularly take their lunch mid to late morning or late afternoon. And about 28% of staff said their employer discouraged them from taking a full hour at lunch. “These results reflect ever increasing work pressures,” said Manaaz Ahktar, head of marketing at Subway.
