Global wholesale food prices have remained stable in June for the fourth consecutive month, according to new data by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The organisation warned that despite moderating wholesale food prices, retail prices were still likely to continue rising as the food sector passed earlier increases on to customers. The FAO food index was 216 in June, down from 217.5 in May and below a peak of 218.1 in March. The index, however, had still risen by 30% on the past 12 months, with prices appearing to be stabilising at high levels.
