Zoe Williams of The Sunday Telegraph reviews 409 in London’s Clapham, which she describes as “a gem”. The fillet of bream is “plain beautiful” and devilishly moreish” and the roast pork loin is “succulent and delicious”. David Stenhouse of The Sunday Times visits Vittoria on Leith Walk in Edinburgh, which reminds him of an American family restaurant with its “reasonable prices, big portions, huge choice and friendly waiters”. He says it is the place to visit for “satisfying food, unpretentiously served and delivered with good humour”. Simon Hopkinson of The Observer reviews Roka in London’s Charlotte Street, where he enjoys “the great beauty that is the Roka rice hotpot with king crab” – a kind of “Asian risotto”. He describes it as “cookery of a higher order”. Terry Durack of The Independent on Sunday visits New York-style pizzeria Mulberry Street in London’s Westbourne Grove. He enjoys the “cold cuts” platter but the Classic pizza is “too cheesy” and some of the pizza dough is raw in the middle, while the rocket, spinach and parmesan salad is “tired” and the butter icing on the cupcake is turning rancid in the heat. He awards it 13 out of 20.
