Mark Palmer of The Daily Telegraph visits Rhodes W1 near London’s Marble Arch. Michelin stars “are definitely in the air” for the restaurant, where Gary Rhodes will be in charge of the kitchens for at least two months before delegating the cooking to Brian Hughson, previously of the Savoy Grill. The food is excellent and Palmer says “you won’t find much better service than here”. Giles Coren of The Times visits gastropub The Albion in London’s Islington. He pronounces the broad bean and ham knuckle soup “lovely and green” but his braised duck does not have enough meat on it to fill his stomach. He awards the restaurant 7 out of 10. Matthew Norman of The Guardian reviews Chinese restaurant Kiasu in London’s Queensway. The food is “authentic”, the servings “generous”, the service “warm and smiley” and the bill “absurdly small”. He pronounces the restaurant “an absolute corker” and awards it 9 out of 10. The Daily Telegraph 26/5/07 page W20 (Weekend) The Times 2/2/07 page 77 (Magazine) The Guardian 2/5/07 page 71 (Magazine)
