Ernst & Young has appointed Christie + Co to market the 26-strong von Essen estate of luxury country house hotels in England, Scotland and Wales, which was placed into administration in April with debts of more than £250m. This portfolio, consisting of castles, stately homes and some of the UK’s most famous country house hotels, is classified across three types: Classic Hotels; Luxury Family Hotels; and Country Hotels. The properties include Cliveden in Berkshire, the Royal Crescent in Bath and Amberley Castle in West Sussex. The asking price for the portfolio is believed to be above the £200m mark. Chris Day, managing director of Christie + Co, said: “This collection of fine country house hotels offers a unique opportunity as a whole group or in parts to be added to similar hotel estates. “Given the history and international reputation of these hotels we anticipate considerable interest from potential buyers who have already been in contact to try and secure some or all of this famous collection of hotels.”
