Irish music impresario Vince Power, who has built up a string of 12 bars and clubs in London, has acquired the Benicassim pop festival in Spain and is pursuing other opportunities in Eastern Europe. Power, described as "the godfather" of the UK pop scene, sold his Mean Fiddler company, which was behind the Glastonbury and Reading festivals, for £38m last year to US media group Clear Channel. He describes the Benicassim festival as being like Reading "but with sunshine". The Sunday Telegraph 19/03/06 pages 2&8
